Benefits of Solar Panels
MACE DAVIES ~ BLOG
Solar panels used to be very expensive to install. With the development in technology, it is now more affordable to install solar panels which will have a positive impact on the environment.
With the advancement of solar panel technology, there has been an improvement in installation versatilities. The panels can be installed vertically and horizontally, making the most of the space available meaning the more panels you can install, the more energy you can collect.
There are no grants for solar panels available in the UK.
The government used to provide interest-free loans and grants as part of the Green Deal, but this concluded in 2015. The Feed-in Tariff also came to an end in April 2019, but the new Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) started in January 2020.
If you are connected to the grid, and generate more electricity than you use, there is also a possibility to receive payments for the surplus energy that you export back to the grid.
Among all the benefits of solar panels, the most important thing is that solar energy is a renewable energy source, solar energy, unlike some of the other sources of energy, cannot run out.
Does the benefit outweigh the cost?
Of course, the use of solar panels is weather dependant and energy cannot be collected at night. It can be advisable to install solar battery storage along with the solar panels, but, this would increase the installation costs considerably.
However, to counteract this, solar panel systems have a reasonably low maintenance cost, mainly needing only regular cleaning.
With the reduction in electricity bills, low maintenance spend, and surplus energy income, the benefits of having solar panel energy could significantly outweigh the installation costs.
